New Addition

My golden retriever, Hershey, died this past fall. I had him since he was a puppy. His companionship for the last 10 1/2 years was priceless. He was diagnosed with cancer and died five weeks later. I was heartbroken.

So I had a decision to make. I could spend the next few months alone and grieving or I could get another dog. I got not one but two puppies, Chester and Alfie. They have the same father but different mothers. Chester is the older by 10 days. I’ve never had two dogs before, it’s quite different from having just one. As I write this they are five months old and I’ve had them since they were six weeks old.

Chester appears to be the alpha, with Alfie the mischievous one. They play well together and are very close. Alfie won’t touch a new toy until Chester takes it, but then Alfie will take it away from Chester. Then the fun begins with Chester taking it back and the two of them running around grabbing the toy from the other. It tires them out so I don’t have to.

Pets can be a great source of companionship, dogs, cats, even fish can provide unconditional love and support. I prefer members of the opposite sex, but Chester and Alfie are filling a void in my life and I’m happy to have them.

Do you have a someone special in your life that you’d like to send a shoutout to? Let me know.
