Day 28

It’s a beautiful day to be leaving Whitefish. The train is an hour late but the Whitefish station is nice. I’ll be spending the entire day and half of tomorrow on the train, so I don’t expect much to happen or many pictures, but who knows? Next stop is Milwaukee.

Getting ready for bed now. The day was quiet, just one more delay. A few good views at the beginning of the other side of Glacier National Park. I went to the observation car to see them but of course I picked a seat on the wrong side of the train.

Day 27

I managed to be a last minute add on to a tour suggested by the hotel. The first stop was Hungry Horse Dam. The day was clear and I got some good pictures. The dam is named after the nearby town which was named when two horses were left behind during an evacuation. They came out of the woods a few months later very hungry.

Next we went to Apgar village on Lake McDonald and took more pictures. Then it was off to the Lodge on Lake McDonald and more pictures. You can see the reflection of the mountains in the water. We went to a picnic area for lunch. I ate in the van because it was cold. The final stop was at the Huckleberry Patch gift store where I got Hershey a toy and some huckleberry preserves for me.

After a five hour tour I am ready for a nap. This concludes my stay in Whitefish. My train leaves early tomorrow for Milwaukee.
